Study of Existing Problems and Improvement Strategies of Cultural Awareness Cultivation in English Teaching in Senior High School

The cultivation of cultural awareness in English teaching in senior high school is an important part of core competence of English discipline. Due to the influence of exam-oriented education, English teachers in senior high school attaches great importance to the language teaching while neglecting cultural one, especially Chinese culture teaching, which leads to the weak cultural awareness of students. This paper analyzes the specific manifestations and causes of the weak cultural awareness in English teaching in senior high school by means of literature research. On the basis of this, the ways for English teachers to cultivate students’ cultural awareness are discussed. English teachers need to change the concept of attaching importance to the training of language skills and neglecting the education of cultural awareness, and pay more attention to the cultivation of traditional Chinese cultural awareness. At the same time, teachers are supposed to fully explore all kinds of cultural education materials in and out of class, play the role of the main channel of classroom teaching and the influence of English cultural practice, and cultivate students’ cross-cultural cognition, attitude and behavior orientation.
