The Linear Art in She People’s Huabianshan in East Fujian

The clothing of She people (an ethnic group in China) is featured by its linear expression. Based on documents and field research, the essay will take Huabianshan (a specifically decorated short shirt with laces on the collar, cuffs and garment fronts) for example to elaborate on its evolution, structural characteristics and ideals. First, the essay will clarify the changing rules of outlines through comparison between the appearances of Huabianshan from different times. Second, the essay will work on the features and design ideals of four styles of Huabianshan by examining the clothes of the same period in east Fujian province of China. At last, the essay will illustrate the bearing of the She people clothing in east Fujian province on the inheritance and dissemination of Chinese clothing art.
